Ground Beetles Information and Control: New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas

Appearance
1/16" to 1 3/8" black, shiny skin, with six legs and two antennae.
Habitat
Mainly outside, on stones. These beetles will enter a structure at night, since they are attracted to light. When crushed they give off an unpleasant smell.
How do they affect me?
They are a nuisance pest. These pests are not known to do any type of harm.
What should I do?
Ensure your windows have screens in them. You can also make sure that there are no harboring areas (rocks and logs) close to the foundation to the home. Ground beetles is a pest covered under our Home Pest Prevention Program.
